Individual transcription of textbooks, vocational and leisure materials is provided by professionally tested and trained volunteers. Transcriptions are then provided to requesters on cassette tape. All personal materials are provided free to individuals with print disabilities throughout Minnesota. There is a Fee for Service for schools, colleges and universities, businesses, government and nonprofits. Requests may be initiated by calling the Tape Textbook Librarians at 651-649-5903 or 1-800-652-9000. All books are researched with Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic and with the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped . The requester is notified if the book is available from another source. Books already available from the Communication Center will be duplicated by the Engineering Section and sent to the customer immediately. Books not currently in audio form may be sent to the Communication Center with assignment schedules, and the recording process will begin. If the request is for a textbook or from a business or organization, a purchase order must be received before recording begins. As each tape is completed, it will be sent to the student. |
